THE SHORT ANSWER

Start an intercity comparison by checking trains for your actual stations and date. Use the official booking service to compare each train’s times, seats and final fare. Add the journey to the departure station and from the arrival station to your accommodation when comparing the whole trip.

What should you compare between train services?

The transport ministry’s 31 August 2026 announcement and operator notice state that KTX and SRT operate together as KTX from 1 September, with bookings through Korail+, the website and station counters. Use results for your current travel date rather than older instructions built around a separate SRT app or fare comparison.

Use the station on your ticket, not just the city name

Seoul, Yongsan, Cheongnyangni and Suseo are different departure stations. Compare the station selected in the booking form with the journey from your accommodation. If you try a different station after finding no suitable service, check the actual train and any transfers again.

Daegu and Dongdaegu are also different stations. Keep the exact station name, including its Korean spelling, with your accommodation details, booking confirmation and map. For a trip to or from Jeju, plan the flight or ferry leg separately.

A practical booking sequence

Use the official KORAIL English booking entry point or Korean website in the sources below. Some English guidance still contains wording from before integration; if pass coverage or booking windows differ, check the current notice and customer guidance. Display language alone does not establish overseas-card acceptance or whether you can complete Korean phone verification.

  • 1. Set the actual stations, Korean date and time, and each one-way or return leg. Check the return train as well.
  • 2. Enter every passenger’s age and the required number of seats, then compare trains, transfers and seat classes.
  • 3. Before paying, check the whole party’s total in KRW and read change or cancellation deadlines and fees.
  • 4. Confirm that the ticket was issued, not just that payment succeeded. Keep any email, password or other booking-retrieval details securely.
  • 5. Reopen the ticket in the same official service before departure and check the date, train number, stations, coach and seat.

Boarding and connections: start with the ticket

A waiting-list request or an available seat in search results is not an issued ticket. If seats are sold out, compare another time, station or train. Choose standing or other ticket types only after checking official availability and terms; a sold-out train is not a reason to board without a ticket.

KoreaPin suggests allowing time at the station to find the platform, use the toilet and move your bags. For a connection, check whether it uses the same station, how to reach the platform, and which ticket needs changing if a train is delayed. This guide does not guarantee a minimum connection time or a successful connection.

Check child seats and luggage separately

Do not apply one infant discount or baggage allowance to every train. Check the final booking screen and current official terms, and resolve any unclear condition with the station counter or customer service before booking.

SituationBefore booking or leaving
Travelling with childrenAge on the travel date, the discount category and assigned coach and seats. Follow official eligibility and evidence requirements.
A separate seat for an infantDistinguish lap travel from buying a separate seat and check the allowance per guardian. Free accompaniment does not secure an empty seat.
A stroller or large suitcaseCheck the train’s carry-on rules, folded size, storage space and station stairs or lifts. Reserving a seat does not reserve luggage space.
Wheelchair travel or boarding assistanceAsk the official service about access at your chosen train and stations, required seating and assistance arrangements in advance.

Transit cards, individual tickets and rail passes are different

A transit card or Climate Card for city transport does not reserve an intercity train seat. For a rail journey, separately check the actual train ticket or an eligible rail pass and its seat-reservation requirements.

KORAIL PASS is offered to foreign visitors to Korea and is not available to Korean nationals. Nationality and product eligibility are separate from display language. Holding a pass does not secure a seat on your preferred date; check eligible trains, travel days and extra charges first.

The official English pass guidance still contains a pre-integration SRT exclusion. This guide therefore does not confirm pass coverage of former SRT services. Do not count those journeys as pass savings until the operator confirms your actual trains.

  • Comparison method: compare the total of individual tickets with the verified pass price plus supplements and uncovered journeys for the same people and dates. If the pass price or coverage is unverified, do not manufacture a recommended saving.

Plan the return and any changes

On a concert or festival day, an event’s scheduled finish is not your confirmed arrival time at the station. KoreaPin suggests checking the journey from the venue, exit crowds and last services, then comparing an overnight stay if the return is tight.

When plans change, use the change or refund process of the official channel where you bought the ticket. Disruptions, delays and holiday sales can have specific notices. This page does not provide live timetables, seat inventory or confirmed fares.

A few good questions

Do I need a separate app for SRT tickets?

The notice for integrated operations from 1 September 2026 directs travellers to Korail+, the website and station counters. Search your actual travel date, station and train rather than relying on old app screenshots or fare tables.

Does T-money or a Climate Card reserve a KTX seat?

No. Having a city transit card is separate from securing an intercity train ticket and seat. Use official booking to check the ticket or eligible rail pass and seating requirements for your train.

Does an infant need a separate seat?

Travelling without a separate seat and using an individual seat have different conditions. Check age on the travel date, the allowance per guardian and the separate-seat fare in official booking. Free infant accompaniment does not mean a seat is supplied.

Where can I check train fares and journey times?

Search official booking using the same date, exact stations, passengers and seat class. KoreaPin does not estimate live prices or times; include travel to and from the stations when comparing your options.
